It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless.

You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me.

And that’s when you met me.

“What… what happened?” You asked. “Where am I?”
“You died,” I said, matter-of-factly. No point in mincing words.
“There was a… a truck and it was skidding…”
“Yup,” I said.
“I… I died?”
“Yup. But don’t feel bad about it. Everyone dies,” I said.
You looked around. There was nothingness. Just you and me. “What is this place?” You asked. “Is this the afterlife?”
“More or less,” I said.
“Are you god?” You asked.
“Yup,” I replied. “I’m God.”
“My kids… my wife,” you said.
“What about them?”
“Will they be all right?”
“That’s what I like to see,” I said. “You just died and your main concern is for your family. That’s good stuff right there.”
You looked at me with fascination. To you, I didn’t look like God. I just looked like some man. Or possibly a woman. Some vague authority figure, maybe. More of a grammar school teacher than the almighty.
“Don’t worry,” I said. “They’ll be fine. Your kids will remember you as perfect in every way. They didn’t have time to grow contempt for you. Your wife will cry on the outside, but will be secretly relieved. To be fair, your marriage was falling apart. If it’s any consolation, she’ll feel very guilty for feeling relieved.”
“Oh,” you said. “So what happens now? Do I go to heaven or hell or something?”
“Neither,” I said. “You’ll be reincarnated.”
“Ah,” you said. “So the Hindus were right,”
“All religions are right in their own way,” I said. “Walk with me.”
You followed along as we strode through the void. “Where are we going?”
“Nowhere in particular,” I said. “It’s just nice to walk while we talk.”
“So what’s the point, then?” You asked. “When I get reborn, I’ll just be a blank slate, right? A baby. So all my experiences and everything I did in this life won’t matter.”
“Not so!” I said. “You have within you all the knowledge and experiences of all your past lives. You just don’t remember them right now.”
I stopped walking and took you by the shoulders. “Your soul is more magnificent, beautiful, and gigantic than you can possibly imagine. A human mind can only contain a tiny fraction of what you are. It’s like sticking your finger in a glass of water to see if it’s hot or cold. You put a tiny part of yourself into the vessel, and when you bring it back out, you’ve gained all the experiences it had.
“You’ve been in a human for the last 48 years, so you haven’t stretched out yet and felt the rest of your immense consciousness. If we hung out here for long enough, you’d start remembering everything. But there’s no point to doing that between each life.”
“How many times have I been reincarnated, then?”
“Oh lots. Lots and lots. An in to lots of different lives.” I said. “This time around, you’ll be a Chinese peasant girl in 540 AD.”
“Wait, what?” You stammered. “You’re sending me back in time?”
“Well, I guess technically. Time, as you know it, only exists in your universe. Things are different where I come from.”
“Where you come from?” You said.
“Oh sure,” I explained “I come from somewhere. Somewhere else. And there are others like me. I know you’ll want to know what it’s like there, but honestly you wouldn’t understand.”
“Oh,” you said, a little let down. “But wait. If I get reincarnated to other places in time, I could have interacted with myself at some point.”
“Sure. Happens all the time. And with both lives only aware of their own lifespan you don’t even know it’s happening.”
“So what’s the point of it all?”
“Seriously?” I asked. “Seriously? You’re asking me for the meaning of life? Isn’t that a little stereotypical?”
“Well it’s a reasonable question,” you persisted.
I looked you in the eye. “The meaning of life, the reason I made this whole universe, is for you to mature.”
“You mean mankind? You want us to mature?”
“No, just you. I made this whole universe for you. With each new life you grow and mature and become a larger and greater intellect.”
“Just me? What about everyone else?”
“There is no one else,” I said. “In this universe, there’s just you and me.”
You stared blankly at me. “But all the people on earth…”
“All you. Different incarnations of you.”
“Wait. I’m everyone!?”
“Now you’re getting it,” I said, with a congratulatory slap on the back.
“I’m every human being who ever lived?”
“Or who will ever live, yes.”
“I’m Abraham Lincoln?”
“And you’re John Wilkes Booth, too,” I added.
“I’m Hitler?” You said, appalled.
“And you’re the millions he killed.”
“I’m Jesus?”
“And you’re everyone who followed him.”
You fell silent.
“Every time you victimized someone,” I said, “you were victimizing yourself. Every act of kindness you’ve done, you’ve done to yourself. Every happy and sad moment ever experienced by any human was, or will be, experienced by you.”
You thought for a long time.
“Why?” You asked me. “Why do all this?”
“Because someday, you will become like me. Because that’s what you are. You’re one of my kind. You’re my child.”
“Whoa,” you said, incredulous. “You mean I’m a god?”
“No. Not yet. You’re a fetus. You’re still growing. Once you’ve lived every human life throughout all time, you will have grown enough to be born.”
“So the whole universe,” you said, “it’s just…”
“An egg.” I answered. “Now it’s time for you to move on to your next life.”

And I sent you on your way.

On Thursday Aug 22 2013 , a 22-year-old woman, an photojournalism intern with an English magazine, was allegedly raped by the five accused at the Shakti Mills compound in one of the Mumbai’s most affluent areas Parel in evening 8 pm when she had gone there with a male colleague on an assignment. The accused tied the hands of the victim’s colleague with belts and took her to a thicket where they took turns to rape her. The incident, which is reminder of the December 16 Delhi gang-rape case of last year, has sparked nationwide outrage again.

In between two cases in Mumbai and Delhi, there have been numerous other cases in both the cites, though they mostly doesn’t make the headlines. These aren’t even counting the sexual assaults which never go reported, walled away by shame or hidden inside our homes. If there has been any positive to these horrendous cases, it has been the enormous outcry from Indian society. In December last year, student-led protests in New Delhi grew to encompass Indians from all walks of life. Tens of thousands took the streets with the clear message that something has to change, and that women should no longer have to live in fear. A similar wholesome outrage is witnessed now after the shameful incident here in Mumbai.

Among the many progressive and constructive calls to authorities to control the menace, there are sizable number of people calling for mandatory death sentence in cases of sexual violence. The anger felt is completely understandable, as it is the desire to impose stricter laws around sexual violence to ensure that what is happening in Delhi, Mumbai and every other part of India, should never happen again. But imposing the death penalty would just perpetuate the cycle of violence.

Amnesty International opposes the death penalty in all circumstances, regardless of the circumstances or the nature of the crime. It is the ultimate cruel and inhuman punishment, and a violation of a fundamental human right - the right to life. Today, 140 countries in the world have abolished executions in law or practice. Only some 58 countries (including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China in south east Asia) are actively practicing it. In the European Union member states, Article 2 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union prohibits the use of capital punishment. The United Nations General Assembly has adopted, in 2007 and 2010, non-binding resolutions calling for a global moratorium on executions, with a view to eventual abolition. Over past fifty years, there is a global trend moving towards the abolition of the death penalty.

Throughout history, there is no evidence to suggest that the threat of execution works as a special deterrence. In London in 18/19th centuries when even pickpockets were hanged publicly, those gathered to watch the spectacle of hanging use to get their pockets picked again.

In present context of Indian situation, certainty of punishment rather than the severity is the solution. Its the woefully low conviction rate for these crimes which has to be addressed. Imposing the death penalty for sexual assault cases would only worsen this situation, as judges would hesitate to give such an extreme sentence, and the legal process would become even lengthier and more complicated. The laws and the justice system must be reformed, and the definition of rape, which is currently far from adequate, should be amended. Many women are reluctant to report crimes, fearing humiliation and degrading treatment by the police, or the social stigma that comes from society at large. The efficiency of Indian legal system coupled with abatement of sexism from our society is the way forward. There is no question that the country's women deserve much better legal protection, but the death penalty is not the answer.

No better example to prove that both nations even after separation of sixty six years posses same idiotic DNA. After quite 2012, 2013 witnessed many cross firing instances at Line of Control resulting in casualties on both the sides. Through the exact reasoning for such intermittent "unprovoked" clashes between two mighty and expensive armies will need some new branch of philosophy to be invented, the resultant has been algorithmic accusations and counter accusations of LOC ceasefire violations from both the sides.

Such atmosphere of animosity gives an otherwise mundane independence day some relevance to both the sides. England is old lost history and apart from few cricket matches, there is no other competition left between UK and subcontinent nations. All meaning of nationalism and patriotism today is best defined by how hard you detest your neighbor. Lets accept that, to hate and to blame is sexier than to love and to accommodate. We all intrinsically love to hate and wish to kill. Best examples are plethora of best selling video games where you kill and destroy all along the way to clear different levels and stages.

Whenever the armies on both sides execute these lest we forget reminders for their masses, its the media on both sides who act as flag bearer of nationalism ranting out loud about failed aman ki asha. Yes it will fail more often than not because its a walk on tight rope. Our war mongering news anchors with no or distorted knowledge of history (or present or future) along mass of this country who desire for billions of Bhagat Singh or Subash Chandra Bose to born again for India (except for one in their own families) just find it more in fashion to detest the neighbor.

Most of the Indians have either already assumed India to be world's greatest superpower (capable to defeating even china or aliens if they come) or they are ignorant of perils of two heavily and equally nuclear armed nations living in continuous stand off. You can choose your friends or enemies but not your neighbor. Fact remains that peace and talks will ever be only solution, no matter how many bullets cross any side of the border. You just don't have any other solution.

The US pull out (with no apparent victory in Afghanistan) in 2014 is deva vu of 1989 erstwhile USSR pull out of Afghanistan (with its implications on Kashmir). With world fast into globalization and unions, no one can afford another lost decade like we both had in 1990s. Now lets accept that game spoilers to peace will continue to exert their influence, and best way to go ahead is to establish a talk process between two countries which could not be held ransom to any misadventure happening. We have to grow up and find solutions to peace anyhow.

We both have lost 66 years to idiocy .. Lets learn from History..

Over dinner talks....
Me, "Bharat mata ki Jay" ( With a Grin )
He, "Say, Pakistan Murdabad" ( Let Pakistan be doomed)
Me, "Ohh common , I wont ever say that..."
He, "It shows you have no love for your country you are born in, Country which has given you everything from identity, to living, to protection against same Pakistan you are fond of.."
Me, "My Love for India is not a function of showing detest for Pakistan. I love India and love Pakistan too.. And I believe that there should be no conflict of interest between my feeling for two"

When You take a stand which is against populist nationalism in countries over the world , such events become perpetual part of your life. Some end with banter while some even go till tempestuous accusations. They start complimenting you as Pseudo Secular sometimes even Ingrate to India. I feel frustrated but then I believe that being ingrate to humanity is more important than being Ingrate to India. Sometimes I wonder, I still get away with my affection for Pakistan as I am born into Hindu majority family of India. But if I was born Muslim, they would have tagged me as traitor, terrorist or whatever so easily. This desultory labeling is product of disease "Nationalism" which most of us suffer from. Nationalist just love tagging people. Nationalist tag all Kashmiri Muslims as terrorist because their dumb neurons will never let them comprehend that many Kashmiris could just be what Bhagat Singh was for India. I sometimes wonder for people who believe British were evil colonizers , are now hypocrite in case of Kashmir ? People
whose ancestors fought for so long for right to self determination are
so blind to same demand raised by Kashmiris ? Nationalism making us blind to facts and honesty, blocks rationality and our minds becomes fortress of banality. The first seed of this blind nationalism are sowed in our schools when we learn that map of India containing Pakistani kashmir and Askai Chin as integral part (Atoot Ang) of India. Why are we not taught they are land of long dispute between countries? Why are we not taught truth and facts in first place? With mind obsessed in nationalism, you become blind to fact that we can be wrong at times, we can commit crimes and sins too. While any fact presented to us which conflict with our nationalistic ideas bring cognitive dissonance to our thoughts and we look for blame outside especially on weak and minority. Moreover those who manage to unlearn these fallacious teachings to discover and relearn the truth are termed as easily termed as ingrate or traitor to country.

Coming back to debate, I dont hate Pakistan because I don't find a reason to hate it. A country is made up of people who live in. When I talk to ordinary Pakistani, he is no different than any ordinary Indian. We have idiots lost in Nationalism on both sides. Though still I could find more self introspective people on that side of border. Just like they will blame us for Kashmir living hypocrite when it comes to balochistan issue, we will blame them for attrocities on minorities keep closed eye on perpetual human right violations here.
So what separates the people of two countries? If I judge by human quality, If I have to hate Pakistan then I have to hate India first. Some might argue that Pakistani establishment has been Anti India from its very beginning. But truth is same thought process is prevalent on this side of border. India will blame Pakistan for 1965 aggression, Terrorism support in Kashmir and Punjab, Kargil war and Pakistan will blame India for Kashmir occupation, Siachin aggression and interference in Bangladesh civil war. Truth is both countries have to tried to inflict as much damage as they could have done and again there is really nothing to choose between to the two when it comes to idiocy . Both countries have piled up expensive weapon and nuclear arsenal while keeping millions starving. Pakistan being a smaller country, will face paranoid of bigger country more and hence we find more dependence on defense establishment on that side of border.

Indian Nationalist use propagation tools of slogans like "Hindus not extremist enough" and "India is a soft state". Such views are practiced even after India has witness some of the most horrific stories in Gujarat 2002 and Delhi 1984. This is in spite of heavy militarization from Kashmir valley to North East states. Cheif culprit in 1984 Anti-Sikh roits "Sajjan Taylor" enjoyed political life in Z Security and architect of 2002 Anti-Muslim riots is in race to be probable Prime Minister of India. Fact that Narendra Modi is seen as penecea of Indian Problem tells a lot about how much this disease of Nationalism has crept into Indian Minds. At one side we are ready to forgive (even accept that he was involved) Modi for his crimes and to accept him for highest working post of this country while on other hand we are so blood thirsty nation yelling death for Ajmal kasab and Afzal Guru. Its the barbaric hypocrisy of our nationalist society. A killer is a killer, no matter he is Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Indian or Pakistani or whatever. Will we rise above prism of man made classification of a humans by Caste, Nationality, Region, Religion, Color and start looking any person as human first? God must be regretting for creating humans made same by DNA but we ourselves took the task of division and associations. Its just due to our gregarious needs where we lack confidence in our individuality and look for associations based on Nation, Region, Color, Caste and Religion.

Regionalism, Caste-ism are not very different from Nationalism and are infact subset of it. Plight of Biharis in Maharashtra or Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir is a
consequence of same thought process on which Nationalism is based upon. They all invoke same feeling of identity instigating into tag - Us or Them. We can not think of removing one from society keeping others roots deep intact in society. For example for a Jat who is nationalist will go defensive once he will hear about rumors against Khap Panchayat. Because for him both are part of his identity and more he is close to his clan, this tribe-ism will take precedence over Nationalism much to discomfort of staunch Nationalist. This is because Nationalist believe in one size fit all approach for whole Nation. This is no different than what Pakistan believed that only religion can bind two East and West Pakistan together. Even for all their problems, nationalist have same blind reasoning and solution. Be it for kashmir, Manipur or Chattisgarh. This superficial thought process keep them away from ground realities and truth.

Hitler said, “The effectiveness of the truly national leader consists in
preventing his people from dividing their attention, and keeping it
fixed on a common enemy.”. Bush has used it successfully in USA, Pakistan Army has used it Pakistan, Chinese communist party in China, Putin in Russia, BJP has used it successfully to rise to power from ashes in India. This obsession to seek line of fault on others than to seek within thus creating a sense of false perfection and pride within that community . Nationalist leader use utopian dream and combine them with unacceptable desires to sell it to masses. While talking of restoring culture and giving sense of group identity they profess that existence of other group somehow puts their own survival at risk. And to survive they have to mobilize in own identity grouping based on caste, tribe, nation, religion, language and build a shell around to keep out foreigners (who doesn't fit into majority). And with this habit whole blocks of millions or tens of millions of people can be confidently labeled good or bad. Individuality looses its value and what remains is superficial tagging.

This Nationalism and Religion are just opium of masses. They are no different when it comes to common disrespect for the individual, their intolerance for the
necessary private margin of dissent and disbelief which keeps us all
free. Religion and Nationalism though pitching for equality human values and
right, have been greatest cause of loss of human lives and human rights through out history. When religious community
based majoritarianism seek to capture the state, they can be nothing
but exclusionary, discriminatory, intolerant and prone to use violence
against minorities, secularists and dissenters.

Before we were Jews , Hindu , Muslim, Punjabi, Marathi,.. We were
Humans first.. And interestingly we still are; We have just forgotten
it..

When ever I am asked about my identity, These verse of Bulley Shah play in my mind..
I was among the first to comment. Followed a series of discussion .. Then I presented my 10 point consolidated view (During a boring 20 mins call with Canada Client in Office ) .. I thought to publish my comment to that Note tonight as I think its also apt as my "Open letter to Kashmiris and Government of India"

( 1. My views are Pro Government of India . Thought I have tried to understand other point of View also.. I am talking straight Politics with hardly any room for emotions
2. It was my reply to chain of discussion so I may have made some references to above comments . Please visit the note for those comments
3. I will publish text of this Note as first comment to this Post , Its better if you go through the note note first so that you could get relevance of what I am speaking on )

First link to his Note

http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=421480624101

"I got some interesting views above ... But I have few discussion points which I would like Pranjal , Nirjhar , Gowhar to answer..

1. As rightly said by someone above.. Every citizen is slave of government it elects . And similarly , Kashmir is also controlled by Govt in Delhi and their own elected Govt of Kashmir . Thats how it is true for every state of India.. Though Kashmir enjoys more autonomy . Democracy is election of your masters (by majority) .So Kashmir is no different slave of Government of India than any other state of India .

2. Concept of India as Nation never existed before 20th century . We had so many kingdom and regions in Punjab , Bengal , Sindh , Balochistan , Kashmir , Hyderabad , Mysore ,......And fact is we still all are all different . Like me a Jatt - We are not like Biharis , Bengalis , Kashmiris , Nagaland , Tamil , Telgu , Gujarati , Marathi . But again we preserve our own identity under flag of nation India . And thats basic essence for survival of country which is more diverse than even whole of europe. There is cry from some in Nagaland , Punjab(Khalistan) , Assam , Manipur , Tamil Nadu for seperation . Even Maoists want self rule .. So Should we divide Indian Into 50 countries?

3. Kashmir wants separation , Tomm even people like me will demand a separate homeland for Jatts in Haryana or Punjab or rajasthan because government of India is insensitive to our cultural Identity of Khaps or some other reason.. But again I know we have to work for our cultural autonomy being a part of "United States of India" as I call it..

4. And if someone will argue my previous generation rulers signed annexation to India , Why should I bear for what they have done.. I could even go on and demand separate nationhood for my State , city , or even my home as that would be "My own right to be governed by Me" (As Kashmiri people call their motto of struggle) .. Think about it. When it is about City , house can be overlooked in demands .When its about Nation , State demands can be overlooked for National interests ..

5.Hindu population of Kashmir has decreased even since centuries and it came down from 16% in 1940 to less than 2% now.. Where was Kashmiriyat then ?? I think Kashmiriyat died the day when Kashmiri Pandits were forced to flee and live as refugee outside their home in kashmir . Ethinic cleansing of Non Muslims is indelible blemish on kashmir .. But sad no one talks about it .

6. I agree Armed forced are doing atrocities . Beause there is Nothing black or White in this world . But again I dont think Amry is enjoying away from home.. Its because there is atmosphere of mistrust and terrorism originating from other side of border.. (I hope you will agree here) .
I do feel those Army men who commit crime should be punished by law and I could see that start to happen .. But truth is Army or Police commit crimes everywhere in India. every state. So Kashmir is no hit list state . And crimes are by product of such atmosphere though very condemnable where government of India should look into.
But once peace comes to Kashmir , Army will be reduced and gradually out of cities as we saw that happening in 2007-08.. So lets stop violence and make Kashmir free of Armed Forces.

7. People who are on street are mostly unemployed , or with unsatisfied job, And people will stomach full are here on internet . Again its not not an defence to bullets fired by Armed Forces but you cant match stone for stone in fight as Armed forces will be out numbered . So Lets end this cycle of voilence . Also Armed forces should learn better ways of Mob control .
Also If a 9 year old kid died due to bullet , There opens many questions to who people responsible ? Army , his parents , Mob who put him in front....

8. Lets get realistic .. At any cost . This world second largest Armed Force and 4th biggest economy of World will never give up on Kashmir as stretegic location of Kashmir advocates need to hold it . Kashmir once free will act as bridge between Pakistan and China and against India .. Same reasons why India holds even siachen Glacier and Nepalis get access to Indian Army ans other Jobs.
Which ever political party will ever think of it ,can forget comming to power in life time..
So best way is autonomous Kashmir with its foreign Affairs, Currency , ... under Govt of India Rest under government of Kashmir .
More important is people movement to and from Kashmir to rest of India .. Only then only it can become economically rich and it can believe itself to be part of India.

9. Lets think even if Kashmir becomes free country. What that Independence be worth for??? Such a small valley will always remain a poor country . At least now kashmiri people comes to rest of India to study and earn...
Will Kashmir valley , Such a small country ever be stable sandwich between countries hostile to each other???

10. And at last onus is also on we rest of Indians .. We should also accept Kashmiris with love and feel them that they are part of this a " Combined Multi cultural States of Hindustaan" . And for Kashmiris , Though we know its tough to forget what you have gone through but remember , " You cant change the past but you can create a beautiful one " . I know its much easy said than done.. But ways of love always prevails as success ..

And in last solution to kashmir also lie on successful relations of India and Pakistan. Lets clear the mistrust , Open our hearts , Make borders irrelevant between two countries . Unite both Kashmirs ... When Germans can do it.. We also can!!!! We need to over come this trust deficit and Hate .. History teaches us that it should not govern emotions...

Jai Hind , Jai KashmirShaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13019895.post-79194147439196529312010-03-27T18:31:00.003+05:302010-03-27T19:59:44.388+05:30Lets bring sanity in Indian footballI have few ideas for Indian Football .. I dunno where this voice will reach but a try nevertheless
(Hey btw you have phone no of Praful Patel ? :P )

Also look at my older post on Indian Football

10 boosters for Indian Football

1. All teams and clubs should be named aligned to some city or region . PSU /Private owner companies should be better off as main front logo sponsor of team . Names like Dempo , SBT, Chirag , ONGC , Mahindra , Air India do no good for fan base .. Names should be city based or region of particular city to associate fans to their clubs . Pangim FC , Trivadrum FC , Colaba FC will make people more associated with them in loyality . If needed clubs could be made franchise of I Leagues

2. We need better broadcaster than Zee Sports for I League . Ten Sports is still better but it shows only handful of matches

3. Timing of start of I League matches should be more apt. A 4 pm start do no good for fans . Matches played at 7:30 pm under flood lights will be better in enticing people to ground. After a day at office away from heat , a I league match can be stress bruster .

4. I League 2nd division should be played on home and away basis just like I league div 1 for at least 7-8 months a year with 4 teams to and fro to league 1 . Initially teams could be locked in I league div 1 and 2 for 2-3 years to help them build the fan and player base .

5. I League div 1 should be played without any gaps in between them and tournaments like Fed Cup should be played simultaneously . Other small tounament should be done away with or may be season opener

6. I League teams should be not allowed to play in State Leagues . State and National League should be separate . If needed teams like Mohun Bagan should play their team B in state league with those players separate from main team for that particular year

7. Winners of state league should be entry ticket for I league div 2 .No of teams from particular state entering I league div2 should be decided by quality and standard of football in that particular state . Like 4 teams for West Bengal and 2 teams from Karnataka- in div 2 and so on...

8.We need new franchise clubs from Ahmedabad , Delhi , Bangalore, Hyderabad , Chennai , Gangtok , Jaipur ,Surat , Srinagar , Jammu , Jamshepur , Bhubneshvar , Gurgaon,.... with coming years to get pan India look

9. T may sound a little optimist and futuristic but tournament like Durand cup (2nd oldest cup in world history) could be re-remoulded into IPL like tournament of 4-5 weeks in month of January or November with top best 6 clubs of country invited to play in it attracting best footballers of world with high pay for 1 month with high media coverage and advertisement .

10. And finally we need a Lalit Modi for AIFF management . AIFF needs new and out of box thinking.

P.S. Not very happy with results of auction of new franchisee of IPL as Pune and Kochi . I think IPL missed chance to indulge huge fan base of Gujarat and Central India without franchisee of Ahmedabad and Lucknow/Kanpur . But again any auction after 4-5 years will have lot of oppurtunity with bigger bucksShaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13019895.post-20938645423783871852009-12-16T14:45:00.008+05:302009-12-16T17:46:53.350+05:3016 december.. A. K. Niazi" class="mw-redirect">AAK Niazi of Pakistan (Commanding Officer East Pakistan) signed unconditional instrument of surrender before India's Lt. Gen. Jagjit Singh Aurora at Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Around 1 lakh Pakistani armed forces personnel were taken as prisoners of war (including some government officials ). It was the biggest surrender of armed forces by any country after World War 2. It is a saga of valour, a military classic scripted and presented to the Indian people by Indian commanders and troops. The surrender Document -

I woke up in morning , Glanced through (e-papers) three most circulated English newspapers of India viz. Times Of India , The Hindu , Hindustan Times .To my surprise , All three of them had no coverage of this historical day . In contrast (Pakistan`s leading Newspapers ) Dawn , The Nation presented exclusive editorials in defense of Pakistani forces even covering up for crimes committed by Pakistani forces in pre-war months. Pakistan celebrates 6th of September as its National Defense Day (Army Holiday) when Indian forces were halted in attempt to capture Lahore city when Indian forces had already gained 360 sq. km. of Pakistani territory on the Lahore front ,thanks to 3 Jat's capture of Batapore and Dograi. But the fact that Lahore was saved that day with Pakistan putting maximum effort of forces ,It is one of the most celebrated days of Pakistan .But in contrast , India`s major victory is still a day unknown to Indian masses (especially youth born after 1971 ). Even after 39 years, this day has still lot of potential to offer. In the abiding shame of disaster in Mumbai’s 26/11 (2008), the glory of Bangladesh 16/12 (1971) can serve to rekindle hope in the people of India, especially the younger generation. Even keeping focus off from neighbors ,If we look that face that Indian Defense forces ( Army Navy , Airforce ,CRPF ,BSF , .... ) are short of officers in excess of 20,000 (Excluding personal below officers rank ), narration of our heroics with Vijay Diwas can inspire youths to join forces and install a feelings of patriotism and nationalism . Responsibility is on Government ,Media and all of us . But Indian Media is too busy catching up and reprinting western media reports of Tiger woods sex life... Wake Up.....

Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13019895.post-89040076690228344132009-12-11T13:07:00.022+05:302009-12-11T18:59:51.365+05:30Telangana : Why all is this Fuss about Pandora Box ??Concept of Indian Subcontinent ( Erstwhile India inclusive of India-Pakistan-Bangladesh ) has always perplexed me to the core. When few states in west and east separated out , How rest of India managed to survive initial years of heterogeneous characteristic? Linguistically and culturally India is far more diverse than whole Europe. Fragmentation of India in to 20-30 small countries would never have been a distinct probability, had States Reorganization Commission not been appointed by Jawaharlal Nehru. The States Reorganisation Act of 1956 drew new lines and internal map of India changed giving respect to all major languages and cultures of India thus appeased most of the India`s population. Since then almost a dozen new demands have come up for new states based on linguistic, cultural, economic or even political distinctness. Out of them , Maharashtra, Haryana, Chattisgarh, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, few others in North East managed to establish their own governance.....Then why all is this fuss about Telangana now? Some argue that it gonna open a chain for many other such demands ? Didn't it happen in 2000 when 3 new states were formed in BJP government? And if some parts of a state do want their own governance, Isn't that synchronous with democracy applied for that region?
Ok Lets get into some rhetorical argument -
1. People from a region always like to have their say in policies which effect them. Recent furor over sugarcane prices let to massive protest from farmers of West UP. Mayavati government was complete oblivious of the pain of west UP and Central government was not ready to agree to their demands. With no where to go , onus was on finances of western UP. Of course why would someone living in a village near Allahabad be sympathetic to farmer of Muzaffarnagar`s village? Similar people sharing similar profession and needs should have of their own represented government understanding their needs.
2. What bonding can someone living in Meerut/Agra and someone from Ghorakhpur share? When there is difference in identity , culture and language the concept of that state becomes invalid. Haryana carved out of Punjab for much lesser reasons. Why not harit Pradesh?
3. UP is the sixth largest state in the world by population. People have to travel upto 700 kilometers to just reach the state secretariat. Eventually development and management becomes tough in such cases. Even if state government become serious for welfare and development of people and state, administration of such a large state becomes tough . Smaller states are always easier to manage . Even if UP is divided in 3 states, they will still be more or less the size of Haryana and bigger than Kerala .

Looking ahead , I envisage demands for Vidharbha(out Of Maharashtra ), Bundelkhand (Out of UP and MP ) , Gorkhaland (from West Bengal) , Harit Pradesh ( from Uttar Pradesh ) as few that need urgent attention for statehood consideration .

Coming to Telengana - Hyderabad- Andra problem. On facts, Hyderabad is product of efforts of whole Andra Pradesh. Two cities that should better be converted into union territory are Bombay and Hyderabad, albeit for different reasons. Bombay needs special status to be looked after its degrading condition(will discuss later someday). Hyderabad region can serve as UT capital of both Coastal Andra and Telengana. In addition, both states can develop a sub capital for individual administrative needs. This will bring more cities into development picture. Big cities under independent/non-political control is never a bad idea if we want to decentralize development in a state to many cities .(Different discussion - Will be continued ....)

P.s. I really disturbed with names we have for our states .Names like UP, MP, Bihar make me feel as if they lack historical Identity. Names like Awadh, Magadh, Oudh will reflect better picture of past in futureShaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13019895.post-47719779656400434852009-12-02T17:50:00.014+05:302009-12-06T17:45:14.352+05:30Wake up Pakistan
Disclaimer : I have tried to pen this article in most secular way keeping nationalist views at bay . About me? I found expression of love in karwa chauth richer than any Valentine Day with love expressed as sacrifice with one`s own volition . Indian customs have legends and myths attached to them , far rich than newly originated V Day celebrations. Today I Don`t wish to pen down more.. ( or similar people from other similar states) hates Hindi and Hindi speaking state people ... And even I support him for the former and for me Later doesn't exist ... Reason: There is no Hindi speaking state in India for that matter . From Rajasthan to Haryana to UP to MP to Bihar , each of these so called Hindi speaking states have their own languages ... An old proverb says "In India language and culture changes every 100 miles". Even Gujarati spoken in Southern Gujarat and North-West Gujarat are miles different .The language of Rajasthan is Rajasthani, Marwari, Shekhawati ,etc., that of Haryana is Haryanvi and Bangaru , that of MP is Bundeli, Malwi, Chattisgarhi, that of UP is Khadi Boli , Awadhi, Urdu , Brajbhasha and Bhojpuri and of Bihar is Maithili, Bhojpuri, etc .These languages are not just localized but are spoken trans India border into Pakistan as well . But as political chicanery , This Artificial mixture language "Hindi" has been imposed on these states.
India was never a nation before 1947 and each of these states had their own culture and languages . Pre Independence , there were many British scholars who use to consider these so called dialects as independent language like E JOSEPH to Haryanavi , George Abraham Grierson for Rajasthani .But after independence these languages couldn't find place in Indian constitution . Script used by Hindi is borrowed from Sanskrit script .Apart from Devnagri , Haryanvi also uses Nagri script , Rajasthani also uses Mahajani and bojhpuri also uses kaithi .They all have their own vast literature written through geners and own folk Music. Haryana folk music called Raagnis which describes great history of bravery in musical form .Similarly Rajasthan folk music is called Maand all sung in their own language
Language study is paramount to understand the culture of a region . Without their cultural and linguistic identity , search for identity came in form of caste .Hence these states have much more prominent caste rigidness as compared to States of south or far east(Like Maharashtra , Bengal, Karnataka , ....) .
Now Hindi is imposed on people who have historically never spoken it . If this Hindi imposition will continue , I have a fear that richness these regional languages will attenuate out with time . It time that Hindi has to give space to these languages .First step in this direction has to been taken by state governments by introducing these languages as official language and in schools ,colleges and offices so that these languages can officially be part of their culture. Rajasthan Govt has taken a step to buttress Rajasthani by recognizing it as state language . But its still long way to go .....

P.s. http://www.samaylive.com/news/do-you-know-bhojpuri-haryanvi-obama-asks-govt-job-aspirants/608690.html

Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13019895.post-63983831540465792192009-08-27T23:34:00.006+05:302009-08-30T18:34:40.647+05:30Indian Fans , football etcOne of my friend Paddy made a interesting wish one day.,.. It was half time break between match of two top European football clubs (one was Manchester club for sure, other I am not very sure of )..He said he has two wishes "One to see India team winning World Cup Cricket and other Indian team playing in World Cup Football in his lifetime" .Even to me this looks very optimist wish but with sense of realism .

Last year I was watching Indian football team play in AFC CUP final against Tajikistan (When Chettri scored hat-trick ), I was surprised to see all aliens face .. Yaa he is biachung , he is chettri , he looks climax lawrance ,Is he Venkatesh? Nah he doesn't play for India any more... what next?? I cant recognise Steven Dias who was approached by LA Galaxy (beckham plays for) or Mahesh Gawli , Gourmangi Singh , Pradeep for that matter

He claims that his fav club is Manchester United (I can hear shout .. "Its mine too" from all directions now. ) My fav club ..hmmm Bayren Munich ...why maybe I liked Hitler personality in my 10th grade history ..so love for Germany .. so support for German team in all World Cups ..and hence support for Bayren Munich (Not to forget a study which says Jats and Germans share same origin :P ) .....Now that's indeed a big chain but I need some reason for support other than just club popularity in India. Most of my age guys stared watching European football ( mainly English ) in early part of this century (thanks to ESPN , got rights for broadcast in India ) and there is no doubt that no other club has been so much successful as ManU in this decade ( Post 1999 ) , hence more than half of European football following people are ManU fan. No wonder now ManU got plans to open Restr-Bar in Delhi to attract consumer capital of India. (I asked my dad abt his fav clubs , he use to keep an eye on liverpool progress on newspaper on non religious basis ) .I was more confused .There were many in my shortlist ..
"Chelsea" (Just to fight against whole bunch of ManU guys ,Ballack was there)
"Leeds United" (Loved this English club around 2000 but their graph went all downhill after 2001)
"Real Madrid" (Just as you get impressed with any multi starrer Movie,I even purchased their T Shirt )
"AC Milan" (For their impressive play)
"Bayren Munich" ..
At last as a maverick , I went to Non-English Club with above reasons).

Now I am thinking.. Do we really like these clubs or this love has evolved just as we think Hollywood is better than Bollywood in movies , McD burger better than Bun Samosa(or vada paao) . We were not born in Manchester or Munich .Is there some sort of Identity Crisis with our new pub going generation ? Ahh.... or Simply a race to copy West(Few lines comes to my mind from "The End" of The Door ).. A guy living in Birmingham will not support ManU but we will....

Few may say that after saturation with European football they don't find Indian football appealing enough. Then I want them to watch India Sri Lanka Match which India won 3-1 .It surly was harbinger of class we can see evolve in future . In General supporting Indian Football my be like Chicken Egg question .Fans want India to perform first and Indian Football needs fans to drive its economy .

I called few of my football fans friends(including paddy) in India`s match in Nehru Cup (when I saw an amazing goal from baichung ).. Invariable response was "Is India Playing today" :O .I was at shock .India won Nehru Cup last time and then won AFC challenge cup last year.. qualified for AFC CUP (equivalent to EURO) ...Now thats some performance for sure..maybe marketing is to fault here but can we be little intelligent fans not crippled by factors of Philip Kotler book.. (Ahh even i was surprised to see Indian Express giving Indian 3-1 victory as small note coverage on 2nd page of sports express) . I was surprised to see a local football event organized by Delhi Daredevils gather much more crowd than Delhi football league finals.even got better media coverage..Guess GMR group knows better marketing than DSA or even IAFF...

Guess this blog is all questions .. no solutions or answers ..Solution will come by thinking for a cause.Cause is your identity .Heared of I league?? Pune FC ,New Delhi Heroes ,Mumbai FC.....Guess too much...Okie we can start with Mohan Bagan which is almost as old a club as ManU .. We should follow English clubs but we can also follow Indian clubs by atleast keeping an eye on fixtures , results and standings and few clips and matches to start with....

Its not that I am all disappointed with Indian Fans. Delhites have impressed me with full pack ambedkar stadium for Indian matches..Kudos to spirit of Delhi.. Tomorrow its India vs Syria in finals of the Nehru Cup .. I wish I was in Delhi now . Here is the data....

Country Population Mobile Users Percentage

India 1,129,866,154 272,710,000 24.1

China 1,323,758,000 592,000,000 42.6

USA 303,403,000 260,000,000 76.8

Pakistan 162,474,000 86,698,000 53.9

Canada * 33,177,900 17,017,000 51.3

*Data for canada is 1 year back than others....

Now above list shows percentage Pakistan mobile users to be double than India and more than china and even Canada .
Now even if i assume Pakistan’s similar economic status and similar development of the telecommunications market, it would be fair to assume a similar tele density as of India (may be there is more of urban population but again India has lot more percentage of service class people with greater purchasing power..

Infact in in pakistan this data is computed to total no of mobile no issued either active or inactive including muntiple SIM (as compared to active subscriptions in India and other countries) just to show a wrong belief that mobile economy is growing at very high rate. Samajvavi Party once big betenoire of congress is now an ally and is in full support of a deal tagged as anti muslim(god know how???) by BSP,BJP and Left....
Now just a look at what is this nuclear deal and why is there so much fuss about it....??

123 Agreement

* The legislation amends Section 123 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954. It lets the US make a one-time exception for India to keep its nuclear weapons without signing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

* Under the amendment, India must separate its civilian and military nuclear facilities, and submit civilian facilities to inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).(India says 14 out of 22 reactors are civilian)

What are the objections to the agreement?

Nuclear deal has provoked controversies in both the countries.

For Indian View : The Communist Party of India , the main opposition to the agreement fears the imperialistic policy of US. They also fear that this deal may tie our hands when it comes to national security as we cant act with sovereignty when it comes to tests but our PM M Singh has already refuted such claims. Also there is no mention of testing or detonation in this bilateral agreement

International and US View : Critics call the terms of the agreement overly beneficial for India and lacking sufficient safeguards to prevent New Delhi from continuing to produce nuclear weapons. While India has pledged that any U.S. assistance to its civilian nuclear energy program will not benefit its nuclear weapons program, experts say India could use the imported nuclear fuel to feed its civilian energy program while diverting its own nuclear fuel to weapons production.

Why is the deal important to US

Energy is the biggest issue in 21st century .No doubt Power will be the biggest requirement for an economy to grow at high pace or lag behind .New Delhi, which relies on imported oil for some 70 per cent of its energy needs, says nuclear power will help feed its rapidly expanding economy. The energy break-up stands somewhat like this:

* Coal and Coal Products: 58%
* Crude Oil, Natural Gas Liquids and Natural Gas: 37%
* Nuclear Energy: 1.3%
* Hydro Electric: 2.6%

On the energy front India, to-date, relies heavily on fossil fuel. And just a result we have power shortage in most of the parts in India and it is a major deadlock in expansion of concerned industries (just a indication that how the stocks of some companies roared up with news of SP support for nuclear deal) Dedicated power would enable us to operate irrigation pumps on electricity and save money on diesel. Railways, which consumes one-third of total diesel, can run on electric power if we have uninterrupted power supply.Electricity is a major part of infrastructure commitment by the govt and our PM is doing the right thing by just promoting it by all possible means. Naturally our Prof APJ abul kalam has clearly come out in support of it. I was both surprised, and rather disappointed to see Brahma Chellaney, eminent Professor of Strategic Studies at the New Delhi-based Center for Policy Research, an independent, privately funded think-tank, and member of the Policy Advisory Group headed by the Foreign Minister of India, write against the nuclear deal.Is it just a egoist crap???
Some argue that work is going on for our indigenous technology for thorium but again we are not sure how many years will it take and we will still require uranium to start it when our own reserves( 0.8%) are depleting too fast...
I just cant understand how some people like Left are so short sighted .Karat was asking for a similar deal with china. Now that is perfect example of making a national and economic issue though a political party ideology. After all how can they be pro-US.......Its same Left and fathers of BJP who were strongly against "Green Revolution" in India thinking it to be agricultural colonization of India by US.Had they been successful India would still have been a biggest begger in the world. Same was case when India was opening up its economy in last decade.I wonder some people just wanna live poor rather than going forward.
World is moving at high pace here and we have to run with it. China, Russia have signed billion-dollar nuclear deal in them .Iran,Pakistan and others are also looking for such opportunities... This deal to me has far more pros than cons..US may have their profit in maintaining power balance in Asia but in long run India is only going to benefit from it(Deal is initially for 40 years).Except India most of the world is looking at it as all big India benefiting deal with India getting better deal than other countries like China.India just need power so this deal is utmost requirement of India. Just a thing to be looked at will be how our PM Manmohan Singh presents their demands in deal.
I not only advocate Indo-US nuclear deal(which some are seeing as Indo-US political deal) but also such deals with Russia(like we are having for new reactors in Tamil Nadu) , France and other countries. After all i want to see India self sufficient in power and i wanna see electricity in every village 24*7.This will be the first step in improving infrastructure of villages which are feel still don't belong to new shining India.Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13019895.post-53026911610737584892008-06-26T13:43:00.004+05:302008-07-09T02:25:37.078+05:30Inflation and Oil PriceThis inflation crisis is ambiguous to understand for the ordinary person. It’s disgraceful to say some of highly educated but shameful politicians are blaming the present government to get some political advantage from it. I guess many of political leaders themselves are not aware of the global crisis but they always talk about it with out proper idea about the global crisis. We should accept the fact which was the side-effect of our economy growth. The blame should also go to media. Media completely failed to educate people about the global crisis. The worst scenario is media targeting the government. Media is opening mouth along with political leaders in criticizing some one for the inflation.

Oil Price in India
Well now the price of crude oil is above $140 a barrel and when the price has moved more than 50$ a barrel, the increase of price in India has been just Rs 5 a liter for petrol. To me as a tax payer, I will always welcome the price of petrol which is not to be too far from market determined price. Around 10% of us are tax payers and the money we give to government will be used to subsidies the petroleum products for rest of 90% also. Now to meet deficit, government will either increase taxes or will compromise with infrastructure and other some basic facilities enhancement. Both of these ideas won’t be liked by a tax payer.
Solution somewhere lies in differential pricing of petrol and diesel. Like we can fix some quota of petrol for a every individual (depending on his vehicle registered) per month at some present subsidized price and then there after at market price for usage more than limit. This will also reduce people going for personalized vehicle so it will ensure smooth traffic even in city like Bangalore. Pricing should also take care of difference in diesel price used in mass transport and diesel price for personalized individual usage. But this move will have to be well supported with good public transport system with different classes. Such model of differential petroleum price is already there in some countries and if it could be implemented with any loophole possibility, then the much subsidy burden on government will be taken care of….

Inflation in India
Let’s just look at two facts first:
1. Wholesale price inflation rose by above 11% in the 12 months to June. The inflation rate is now at its highest since 1995.
2. Inflation Internals: Food articles - down 1.1% and non-food articles - up 1.4%. In fuel: diesel - up 21%, petrol - up 11% and LPG - up 20%.
As per Economists the inflation rates will continue in double digit in some time to come .Why??
If we just look at world inflation China’s inflation rate is over 8%.The Philippines reports inflation of nearly 10%.Inflation is soaring in Vietnam, Malaysia, Russia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt… .Europe’s reported inflation is now the highest in 20 years. Even Japan is now reporting inflation, its rate having nearly doubled over the last year. The U.S. is wrestling with the worst food inflation in 17 years ... Now lets look it from Oil prices view

Oil price as factor of Inflation:
As oil prices move up or down, inflation follows in the same direction and the impact will be greatest when a country is (a) a large-scale importer of oil and (b) has many industries that use oil as an essential input in the production process through its cascading effect
Higher energy costs are a major factor in the worldwide explosion of food prices. The increased cost of fertilizers, packaging and transport has worked through to the markets and shops. At the same time, the diversion of agricultural production to bio-fuels (mainly in response to the high cost of oil) has been a factor in reducing the supply of basic foods like cereals and cooking oil, pushing up their prices. Now why fuel prices are rising then?? Well it is because of many reasons
As a broad trend over recent years, oil prices have been pushed up by supply and demand factors. US war on Iraq and strong growth of the world economy after 2003 (averaging 5% a year) and even higher growth in China and India (over 10% a year) undoubtedly created exceptional demand for oil. But then the main reasons for sudden increase are different....
With the fall in interest rates big investors like hedge funds, investment banks and pension funds have turned to the commodity markets in search of higher returns. While low interest rates have reduced the return from some other financial assets, the rise in crude oil and other commodity prices offer the prospect of big gains from commodity futures. Speculators, on the other hand, treat commodities as a financial asset. Experts believe the current high oil prices are inflated by as much as 100% and it is creating a dangerous bubble in oil and other commodity markets. Speculations like US or Israel attack on Iran has further fire the speculation.

Inflation Solution
The best is that India should look for alternatives and should follow the model of countries like Japan .Companies like Toyota and Mazda have come up with the concept of hybrid cars combining internal combustion engine with batteries and hydrogen cells. These cars recently introduced in India includes taxes of over 100% which should be rather subsidized to encourage people to go for it .
The Central Bank should stop artificially maintaining the rupee at a certain level. Let the rupee have a free float. It is likely to appreciate (by as much as 10%) in a few months. A stronger rupee would mean cheaper imports. Unfortunately, it would also mean fewer earnings for exports. The export lobby has enjoyed the benefits of a weak rupee long enough. Perhaps it is time for some payback. Even in services Indian contact centers offer services at one of the lowest in world .Let Indian business find other dimensions of competitiveness.
• There is an urgent and crying need to improve agricultural productivity and ensure a fair price to the farmer through disintermediation. Our agricultural productivity is just about 50% of China’s. It’s the time for second and bigger Green Revolution.
The civil nuclear cooperation deal between the India and the US is as good as dead. The government dare not risk the prospect of having to face an early election by pushing the deal through. Postponing it by a year automatically means having to deal with a new US administration that may not be as enthusiastic as the present one to see the deal becoming operational.
This century will be ruled by one who will have constant energy source with it. It’s high time to think or we will lag behind in this race.Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13019895.post-22505714875336244632008-06-24T17:45:00.004+05:302008-07-09T02:26:34.875+05:30Beep Beep BeepNow a days , when I open my TV set ,i feel quite monotonous life in me.living in Bangalore half of channels are filled with some villainous look heroes going around trees with north Indian babes (how hypocrite south Indian cinema is !!!! without mentioning all superman out there ....)....
Well of the rest of 50% ,one fourth is saas bahu stuff ,other quarter as News entertainment(again lotta monotonicity and redundancy) . Then other is sports but just after ipl this 50-50 doesn't excite me much and Euro is again just too late in night(though i am trying to catch up ,I just wish Germany wins this time) and then music channels (just every channel has got 5-6 pet song going in rotation policy, alas again monotonous for me!!!!)
In between there is just one class of shows growing as new fad .Reality shows or reality pretend shows. And here i will discuss the top leader in it MTV .
Surprisingly for many, roadies was all new thing to me this year.thanks to my college dayz where i was in better state of work. One effect I could see of this MTV reality made shows is that 'fuck slang' culture going very casual with it.I have no problem with it unless when they just overdo it to make me look it as all artificial and cheeky. BTW i was just wondering what qualities does a roadies has in him ??maybe even that raghu will not have any answer to it....
Then this new horrible splitsville make me think "Is this hot girls ,money ,flirting, lust ,treachery ,tv seduction and all fake romance all what youth of today wants ? Or is this some vicarious virtual life for those who doesn't have such great real life .Or its a eye candy for guys who wanna see girls in skimpy clothes prepared to do anything for money. This will be the worst way to make Indians get ease with social taboos even if i start finding some positives from it....
MTV is youth lifestyle setter now a dayz and it will be great if along with all above crap just to make money if they could just be little more responsible with some intellectual or social showz too... or else i just have to say to MTV "What the F"Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13019895.post-56955431179413088332008-06-13T17:26:00.013+05:302008-07-22T01:13:35.955+05:30Gujjar As ST ,Meenas and ReservationsAs a School boy I use to be very racist. Born into Jat family, I grew up hearing stories and listening to the traits of Jats from elders (and even from people of other castes) about jats being some sort of special caste in world. As I started to read and search on this, it was supported by facts like British naming jats as “Martial race “and about valor of Jat Regiment ,their true spirits a Kshatriya….. .I slowly developed this feeling that Jats are among most courageous, fearless and highest placed caste in world. But here the last adjective got a little setback to me in 1999-2000 when Jats of Rajasthan except bharatpur and dholpur distt were given OBC status by Govt of India ( exception in two distt may be because Jats ruling history was too known in these districts).I began to wonder what OBC means to Jats…. Have they now lowered themselves in social classes in India or are Jats of Rajasthan are inferior to Jats in Haryana, Punjab? Maybe answer was somewhere else. But this move saw many Jats making a shift in their political inclination from Congress to BJP, Indeed it was a huge vote bank. But then next question which came in my mind was …”What made Jats in Rajasthan as OBC than other castes in Rajasthan? Was it social backwardness? I guess that was never palpable .Then was it Economic? Maybe… Maybe not as I had seen jats in western UP to be effluent people. So best thing came to my mind was it is just a political appeasement... My family decided to settle around Noida .If they would have rather decided to settle in Jaipur or I would have taken admission in NIT Jaipur instead of NIT Surat , Why would that have made me entitled to gain educational and other reservation benefits . Just by moving 100-200 km one suddenly becomes backward or forward?

But one thing I best learnt was ...”Going down the social ladder helps folk climb up the economic ladder “

Just Imagine a condition : “A multi millionaire Meena IAS officer's boy is studying without paying the fees whereas the Brahmin who works for class D for the IAS pay fee for his son in the college “ .Will discuss it but lets first look into Gujjar ST thing first .

I just thought… what the recent outbreak of ire implied??
a) that these Gujjars aren't responsible human beings who cannot think beyond their ST status
b) that they probably do not deserve what they're agitating for
c) that they needed to resort to tantrum-throwing on a large scale to bring attention to what they want
d) that they couldn't behave like adults and find out a more peaceable way to solve their problem
e) that they are confounded tribals who engage in primitive and savage actions if you dare ruffle their feathers
f) that they expect themselves to be taken for tribals sitting in the Capital and therefore being absolutely non-geographically-isolated (which is a major requirement for being a ST)
g) that they think blowing up vehicles of mass transport is a great way to prove themselves capable of handling their ST status - if any

Now I am trying to look into it with a historical view…

In 1947 British left India, but their strategies were carried by the Indian politicians. Various places in India and Pakistan like Gujarat in India and Gujrat and Gujranwala in Pakistan shows their deep influence in Indian subcontinent.

Meanwhile, the Meenas who are now arraigned against the Gujjars getting the ST status also have an interesting history.

Meena or Mina another predominant caste in western India , whose correct origin is unknown as to they were indigenous or migrated tribe believe their lineage from matasya avtar of lord Vishnu .They are believed to be original rulers of mataysya kingdom (now Rajasthan) but degraded in power in Rajasthan after Rajputs ,Jats and other communities takings control of kingdom and land .

The similarity between the Gujjars and the Meenas appear over the way in which the British treated them.

During British rule esp. after 1857 Gujjars and Meena were listed in criminal tribes and they further degraded their cause of status in society, it may be seen that both had belonged to a much higher caste order and were later relegated into Criminal Tribe during the Imperial rule later abolished by govt of India in 1952. At that time Gujjars and Meenas were almost equal in society with respect to economic and social standings in society. Initially a certain section of Meena (of rajasthan) were given ST status in reservation and Gujjars were later given OBC in Rajasthan and UP.

Meena who are again The Zamindar Meena , The Chaukidar Meenas , Parihar Meenas and The Bhil Meena (Tribal). in society with Zamindar and some Chaukidaar Meenas even enjoying status equal status to Kshatriya in society were better placed than most of Gujjars in that region. ST status was ought for tribes in Meena (Bhil Meena of southern Rajasthan of Udaipur belt) but due to political game got extended to whole society. so in subsequent years Meena got better in advantages than Gujjars in Rajasthan so Gujjars started feeling at disadvantages and started enjoying better advantages of govt services and education with Meena taking lions share of ST pie.

When out of politics advantage Atal bihari Vajpayee decided gave economic and socially stable JATs OBC status in reservation .This made a direct impact on Gujjar share( Jats being 12-13 % in Rajasthan ,Meena 11-12% and Gujjar 6-7%). JAts being economic, socially, educationaly more rich started enjoying greater pie of OBC share. Gujjars started feeling left out. BJP again for their political rhetoric promised Gujjars their ST status and won state election in 2003-04.But Meena who has for long enjoyed the benefits never liked the idea of someone sharing their reservation pie and made open statement to oppose BJP in elections if Gujjars r given ST status…. This made it a web of Politics and caste in Rajasthan and now whole issue is politicized.

Gujjars have been recognized as ST in Himachal Pradesh and J&K, but not in other States, underlying the geographical differences. Despite their recent fury, there has been no attempt on the part of their leaders to articulate their demand for inclusion in the ST list, or how they qualify the criteria. Merely because Meenas, a community similarly placed, has been in the ST list, does not ipso facto sustain their claim. And why they thought they are the only people who are suffering? Another question is “Will grant of the status solve Gujjars' perceived problems? Or, will it generate a process of schedulisation with every jaati demanding the lowest status possible for the crumbs of the quota raj?” For me This schedulisation is the exact reverse of sanskritisation .

And now Politicos are competing with themselves in achieving the lowest schedulisation possible for every jaati on the assumption that jaati identity is a critical vote-bank criterion. Ain’t there no other way of ensuring affirmative action to undo the status of deprivation? Is quota raj the only method known to a civil society?

. This shows how dangerous this entire vote bank politics game called "Reservations" is. The short sighted politicians have failed to see that they are playing with fire in enforcing and supporting reservations because it is a great dividing force and would divide the country on caste and creed basis. Today, Gurjars are demanding for inclusion of their community in the ST list, Rajputs have already many a times created protest to be included in OBC just of reason "If the Jats can get reservation, why can't Rajputs?" . Meena in MP are in for demand of ST status .Tomorrow, Yadavas would demand listing of their community in the SC list and this game would never end. So, politicians should open their eyes and see to it that all sorts of reservations in jobs and Central Education Institutes etc. are immediately abolished otherwise it is sure that the country would go mess.

There are over 3000 listed castes among the OBCs alone. In a caste-based reservation system is it not inevitable that such demands and grievances will never stop proliferating? VP Singh had no idea about the complexities of the issue when in pursuit of short term political advantage he recklessly unleashed the Mandal formula which itself is flawed

The most ironical aspect of this issue is that reservation on the basis of caste is unconstitutional. The Supreme Court signally failed to discharge its responsibility by failing to enunciate this. Earlier this scribe had quoted Article 16 (2) of the Constitution to assert this. There has been no convincing rebuttal from any quarter until now. If caste-based reservation is constitutional, so would religion-based or region-based reservation be constitutional?

Neither politicians nor the judiciary display the guts to address the issue courageously. The Indian establishment seems totally overwhelmed by false conventions and traditions that are in no way sanctified by law. Unless there is radical reappraisal of India’s political system and culture, the nation will continue to blunder from crisis to crisis.

Over the last 60 years or so, the Scheduled Tribes appear to have evolved into two distinct groups: those who have able to take advantage of the protection and benefits guaranteed to them under the constitution and have been able to decrease the gap in development between them and other communities; and those Scheduled Tribes whom such programmes and protection have failed to reach and who, therefore, still exist at subsistence level with poor health, without education ” jobs and low income levels

I believe the main problem is the "class"ification of the caste. There is wide intra-caste disparity
in income levels, educational and even social backwardness in many castes. That too in large states like Rajasthan with many geographical regions, this disparity in effectuates any serious caste based solutions. Rajputs of Rajasthan are considered backward than Rajputs of MP . A Shekhawati Jat cannot be compared with a Bharatpuri Jat. The Jat in Barmer stands somewhere in the middle. A Bhil Meena in Aravallis is no where near the Meenas in urban Tonk. The problem of Gujjars is even more acute. Gujjars in the upper reaches of Poonch in Jammu, Gujjars in trans-Jamuna Delhi and Gujjars in Rajasthan are a world apart.. Now we see this bizarre spectacle of all of them coming together in the struggle for their brothers in Rajasthan.

Caste is a too large brush, ineffectual to capture the whole picture. We need some other standard of reservation ,maybe economic. Moreover as we saw in Gujjar meena clashes , Caste based reservation has just been perfect for “Division in always divided India“ . The Gujjars and the Meenas seem to have been living most harmoniously before the “socially just” policy of reservation was implemented. And yet, its supporters will have us believe that reservation does NOT divide society.

"Dis-unity in diversity" is certainly conclusive, at least the paraphernalia of Indian Democracy says so.Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13019895.post-25970832283279990752008-03-14T14:15:00.004+05:302008-06-24T13:41:05.678+05:30Test , ODI , 20-20 ?

Cricket pundits and conservatives backs on Test Cricket and Market Researchers and Demand forecasting experts back fast food cricket 20-20 and in between some believe that ODI is right balance between the two . But what form of cricket among these three will survive ?
To me if ICC play their cards well ,all three forms can have their role keeping their individual identity Alive....

Test Cricket has always maintained its identity in any circumstances .such questions were also raised when ODI was invented and it become popular but for true cricket lovers test cricket was always best and real form of cricket. Actually these other form of cricket always compliments test cricket as people who get saturated of other form of cricket would like to watch real test .Occasions when batsman survives and fights out when track is green ,hard and is seaming ,swinging or when it is dust bowl and ball is turning square or bouncy are always the best moments of cricket .similar are moments when a bowler bowls a great spell with hard effort on any lifeless wicket . Still records for test cricket matters more than any form of game .

For 20-20 cricket i believe ICC has done right thing in putting limitation for any country to play the no of 20-20 matches to around 4-5 a year. I think with IPL ,Standford 20 20, ICL and other such league tournaments 20-20 can be on perfectly modelled on lines of football and should be m left mostly for club form of cricket .If success comes true for IPL who knows Delhi daredevils or Mumbai Indians can be future Real Madrid or Manchester United of football .This form of cricket played predominantly in Club form as 20-20 will keep it as separate identity as International-club form of cricket with others being International-Nations form of cricket.People will love to see Mixed teams of players of different countries playing against each other in small format though it will not be same for longer versions as we have seen in afro asians cup or super series .That's why ICC should promote other nations like Pak ,NZ SA and others to develop their own Professional clubs. Here even cricket-weak countries like Holland,Canada,Malaysia can come up with their professional clubs style and with good players from other countries playing in these clubs, they will be strong enough to compete with clubs of Cricket-Strong countries .It will one of the bast use of globalization in cricket. This will only promote and popularise cricket in non test playing nations with 20-20 club excitement . Personally 4-5 years down the line i will love see matches played between Rajasthan Royals vs Yorkshire or Karachi fighters and Kolkata Knight Riders vs say Toronto/Amsterdam Warriors .England who already have Professional club system just need revamp it to come up the ranks for modern 20-20 club style .For nation 20-20 International apart from 3-4 friendly matches per year 20-20 worldcup once in 2 or 4 years will be a major event like FIFA world cup and football friendlies.
If 20-20 could establish itself as club cricket then ODI will better continue as nation form of cricket giving essence of both test and 20-20 forms as it has been in last 3 decades .

 With love for cricket - अर्पण चौधरी

Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13019895.post-56801684244932509732008-02-05T15:07:00.003+05:302008-06-24T13:43:09.078+05:30Who the fuck is Raj Thackeray ? Is regionalism above nationalism?

For a country as diverse as whole continent africa with more cultures and languages spoken than whole Europe its a proud honor for all us that India stand united as country . True Regional sense of belonging brings some identity but Advocation of Thackeray for Jai maharashtra instead of jai Hindustaan(as said by our minister Lalu Prasad Yadav) looks narrow minded public gimmic for publicity.Modern India doesn't have any place for foolish narrow minded people like raj thackeray. Secularism under Indian constitution makes him guilty of promoting communalism in India and he should be subjected to punishment.

Act of beating UP and bihar people in dadar will only degrade image of mumbai which already is facing prolems in maintaining its old glorius identity as city of modern welcome thoughts.Immigration has always played a important role in growth of city , state or nation. You always need different blend of cosmopolitan people with different ideas and roles in a society . Without this immigration mumbai could never bee this financial capital that it stands now.

What concern do MNS party have for Maharashtra in fighting and roiting and damaging properties .If he questions north Indian`s loyalty we could question his loyalty to nation and like way he should leave India.. Mr Bachchan has only helped our film industry and economy by burning fuels of homes of support staff, technicians, junior artistes, spot boys and others(mostly Maharashtrians ) but what has he done for Maharashtra(i call it India).Again what raj has to say about maharashtrians living in Gujarat, Delhi ,Karnataka and other places of india and abroad for their living .India is free country and as per law we can reside in any part of india and open school and colleges in other parts. But i guess anti-national raj thackeray is unhappy for the fact that new colleges and schools have been opened in india for betterment of girl child. His narrow minded eyes can only see Maharashtra and their too only way to get into power.

Instead of taking on such trivial issues such politicians should better look after farmers committing suicide in Maharashtra .Maharashtra (i will call India) may growing at 9 % or more but if we look closely its only 30% living in cities are shining by it.to make India world competing we have to still look at rest 70% of villages and only when all 100% can be a part of developing India, we will be able to say "India shining"

It could only be a wish that such politicians could rise above their narraw minded thought process and think to capitilise on advantages that we could have in world with our resources and try to compliment our booming private sector with infra dovelopement of transport , power and resources and educating india so that our bane population can be boon for us ..

Jai BharatShaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com32tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13019895.post-50032520087169012782007-08-26T13:33:00.001+05:302008-06-26T13:42:58.689+05:30No PostIts more than 1 year without a post now and i don't like to do Blogging now . Sound familiar? Heck, Poland and Portugal even start with the same two letters, just for good measure. That year, Italy beat Germany in the final and Poland finished third by beating France. This year, I'm predicting a Germany/France final. Maybe it will be as epic as their semi matchup that year, which ended AET at 3-3 after France had gone up 3-1 in the first half of extra time, only for West Germany to score in the 102nd and 108th minutes to force penalties, where they won 5-4. We can only hope again.........
Quaterfinal results: It can be quoted in single line--
France deserve to play in semis and England don't deserve to be there in top 4.......
Brazil played well but it was zidane magic that day...... Potugal didn't played exceptional (except shootouts) but England played shit of a game...... Thanks to flop Lampard ( got more than 30-40 chances n couldn't convert a singleone), erikssion ( What the fuck walcott was doing there when he was never tried even against sweden) and rest to poor luck ( Owen n beckham injury)......

Well apart from football fever last test between India and westindies has gone interesting and here is a chance for India to break 35 yr record of series win...last tests were drawn just due to lack of audacity of Rahul Dravid n Team India who are always are more concerned "not to loose " than to go for a Win . Everyone was tired! God, Ballack was practically in a wheel chair. Cambiasso played good really and could have been a good move as he is good defensive midfield player but his substitution failed caused it signalled to Klinsi that Pekerman wanted to defend the lead.

Somehow, i felt pity for the Argentines. the score was 1-0 to them. they started to play defensively, putting great great pressure on themselves to keep out germany but the argentine defence was not really not up to standard. Jose Pekerman was really dumb to take off crespo and riquelme however the turning point was when Abbondanzieri was subbed out after getting knee-ed by Klose. hence, the one sub which could have brought messi for crespo( who probably would have fed and link play with RodrÃguez and tevez to score) on to save argentina was wasted.
I ROARED WHEN KLOSE SCORED. GOAAAAALLLL!!!!! :) :) . I was in emotions after long time...

During penalties:
GERMANY: Neuville scores! He just wellied it, didn't he?
ARGENTINA: Cruz is getting a hell of a lot of whistles. Shit, scary atmosphere. AND SCORES! How cool was that?
GERMANY: Ballack, holy fuck, he's got a real pair. AND SCORES. Wow...........
ARGENTINA: OH AYALA! Bad bad penalty. It's still 2:1 to Germany.
GERMANY: Podolski. I fancy you, despite your bad hair. SCORES! Damn good penalty.
ARGENTINA: Maxi... scores. Just. Too strong to save but the keeper got near it. My dad's shouting that the German keeper keeps bouncing off the line but he doesn't. Dad, shush, you just want Germany to lose. Him: "I'm impartial. I don't care who beats Germany."
GERMANY: Borowski... also scores. , Argentina need to score this next one or they're out, it's over.
ARGENTINA: Cambiasso... SAVED ...YES, GERMANY WIN! Germany. Beat. Argentina.

well many r not aware its time for brazil to take revenge of 1998 WC final.... i seriously want brazil to win so that germany can prove themselves again on july9Shaunhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16984440694112840889noreply@blogger.com1
